EXPULSION OF
544 STUDENTS OF ESUT: A Grand Conspiracy
Desirous to alleviate the sufferings and agonies of
the expelled 544 students of ESUT and their families and bringing to the fore
the sadistic, sordid and anachronistic disposition of ESUT Management and the SENATE
of ESUT, we have written several petitions, letters and comments to ESUT as an
institution, and every other interested parties whom we believed have locus to
assist in resolving this anathema. It is appalling that up till the present,
the academic fate of most of these students is ingloriously hanging on a
balance. What a pity!
In our previous releases, we raised several issues
as to who gave the students the so-called fake admissions, how were they
assessed over the years? Who collected their school fees? Who issued them with
registration numbers? etc. We presented unassailable arguments that since the
pinnacle of ESUT Management were being seriously fingered in the inauspicious and
sordid saga; a full scale public inquisition should of necessity be done to
reveal all those involved either remotely or directly. Moreover many of the
staff allegedly culpable were said to have received considerable admission
bribes on behalf of top members of ESUT Management. In view of the overwhelming
argument we advanced which the university management was incapable to assail
and beset, the university management in its usual way of addressing issues like
this sacked some members of staff allegedly culpable in the so-called admission
scam. This latest move we discovered was conceived, designed and executed by
the Registrar, Barr Chris Igbokwe in a bid to obscure his involvement in the
whole saga.
However, the very unfortunate and pathetic
situation in this sack is that the Vice Chancellor, Prof C.O. Onyeji as is
usual with his incompetence endorsed the sack without any verification and
misled the ESUT Governing Council to approve this ignominious act.
MATTERS
ARISING
Role of ESUT
Management
We wish to bring to the notice of the general
public that some of these students who we insist and indeed were sordidly
expelled have been recalled after many months of excruciating agonies and
brazen injustice against them. It is worthy of note that ESUT Management
led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof C.O. Onyeji and his proxies (masters) told the
world that they conducted a water-tight investigations upon which they based the
expulsion of those students. The question now yawning for answer is, how come
they (ESUT Management) have recalled some of those expelled if their
investigations were water-tight ante? It is evident as we held
and exposited in our previous releases that the expulsion was arbitrary,
inhuman, anachronistic, and diabolically executed. What actually
hold true then that warrant the sack of those students that has changed now?
This is typical primitive administrative procedure of the anachronistic ESUT Management.
It is a well known principle in law and natural justice and conscience that
instead of punishing the innocent together with the guilty, let the guilty go
free!!! We therefore affirm that even if at the end, that it is only those
recalled that had ‘legal’ admission,
the fact still remain that the administrative institution in ESUT revealed its
gross incompetence, extreme insensitivity and sadistic nature of all those who
occupy the pinnacle of administrative position in ESUT.
Furthermore, in furtherance of their diabolic
conglomeration, they ignored and in fact excluded the office and person of the
Registrar which is the organ squarely responsible in this whole mess. They
ignored the very salient fact that it is the Registrar who presides and
superintends over the organ that is solely responsible for recruitment
(admission) of students. If anyone who is culpable should be sacked, it is the
Registrar and any other officer(s) in the Registry directly responsible for issuing
admission to students. Instead, what happened is the quick sack of dispensable
staff of ESUT in a grand design of conspiracy to cover-up the Registrar.
In addition, in our last release, we wondered why
the Registry whose responsibility it is for admitting the students will rely on
information and data generated from the academic departments and faculties to
ascertain the number of students they (the Registry) issued admission bearing
the signature of the Registrar!!!!! This is gross incompetence and gross
dereliction of duties by the Registrar and the Registry which in properly
constituted climes incur sack as a very lenient punishment.
Unfortunately, it is this Registrar, who is squarely enmeshed in this imbroglio,
conceived, designed and executed the sack of the dispensable and disposable
staff as facts and realities are closing up on him.
ESUT Management and indeed all stakeholders
in ESUT should know that we cannot afford a collective wilful amnesia which in
turn leads us to inestimable moral constipation and dehydration. This
diabolical, insensitive, anachronistic and sordid expulsion of these students
without due process and the sack of some staff for culpability in the process
of the ‘fake’ admission in a quest to obscure some of the preferred officials
must not be allowed to hold.
The Role of
ESUT SENATE
The role of the ESUT Senate in the whole expulsion
of the 544 Students of ESUT is ignominious. The Senate of any university
that want to be counted must have as one of their most important principal
values to ensure that all actions taken within its jurisdiction should be one
that will stand the tides of time. That is the extant reason why
individuals who attain the highest title of professor in respective academic
disciplines in the university earn automatic membership of the university
senate. It is believed that the quality of reasoning and incisive
argument which is generated at the floor of the university senate will ensure
sound and almost flawless conclusions and decisions. More so, these
individuals having achieved the highest academic title of the university are
assumed to be sure-footed and not beggarly in arriving at decisions that have
the ability of affecting the lives and future of those who are directly
affected by their decisions.
However, ESUT Senate is a mere negligible
rubber stamp of ESUT Management. If the ESUT Senate had hesitated a bit or had
asked incisive questions as per the so-called water-tight investigations with a
view to ascertaining if the proper procedure was taken in arriving at
conclusions without just rubber stamping what ESUT Management presented, there
will be no need for sack and recall of students. They would have
noticed the arbitrary nature of the so-called investigation and advised the
ESUT Management since they cannot call them to order in a matter which they
have the final say.
This recall of students who were previously
approved for expulsion by the ESUT Senate is a crass indication that ESUT has
no Senate!!! Or that those who occupy the position of senators in ESUT are not
worth the name. Since the ESUT Senate can so be manipulated by a handful of
individuals in the ESUT Management, it is evident that several actions and
inactions in ESUT are according to the inherent deficiencies of the cabal in
ESUT Management. Therefore, the government immediate intervention to save the
heart of the university is absolutely imperative.
CONCLUSION
Consequent upon the above elucidated and
incontrovertible facts afore stated, we hereby humbly call for a full scale judicial
commission of inquiry that will be constituted by government to unravel what
happened and the scope of involvement of top officials of ESUT. That Judicial
Commission of Inquiry which should be invested with the full powers of a High
Court of Justice will have the powers to subpoena witnesses, cause the
production of necessary documents and punish culprits. They should also have
all their sittings in the full glare of the media and the general public.
