Dear Sir,
ESUT HAS NO REGISTRY – The Registrar Confirms
The recent
directives by the Registrar that ESUT students should submit all their
registration files and details to the faculty offices of their faculty; and
failure to submit these files and details before 15 August, 2012 will
automatically de-register the students from ESUT confirms our longstanding
position that ESUT Registry needs complete overhaul.
In a memo
of 7th August, 2012, Reference: ESUT/R/19, Subject: Directive to Students to Submit all
Registration files to Faculty Offices and Departments, the Registrar of ESUT,
Barr Chris Igbokwe stated the imperative of this exercise which was caused by non
availability of student’s registration details.
In another
memo of 8th August, 2012, Reference: ESUT/R/19, Subject: Post Matric Verification of Registration by
JAMB and NUC Officials. The HODs and Faculty Officers were directed to make
available for inspection registration details of students. Namely: Files
containing documentation of new students for 2010/2011 and 2011/2012; files
containing registration details of all students admitted in 2010/2011 and
2011/2012; signed matriculation register for 2010/2011 and 2011/2012; carrying
capacity etc to the Director of Academic Planning (DAP) and Deputy Registrar
(DR) who will conduct a mock exercise of the JAMB and NUC team.
He further
admitted that students of 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 sessions did not submit any
file. WHAT AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF ADMINISTERING THE
REGISTRY OF A UNIVERSITY!!!
MATTERS ARISING
Recall
that in one of our releases “ESUT MOVING INTO OBLIVION” we had a detailed
exposition on ESUT Registry vis á vis some of its core mandate. It is now
clearer that the occupant of the office of the Registrar has failed in his
mandate and thus is incapable of generating any idea of how to salvage the heartbeat
of the institution which is the Registry.
It is
ludicrous and incongruous that the one and only reason for this exercise is the
visitation of the JAMB and NUC teams, what a shame!!! What happens when they
are gone? The following years will of course as alleged by the Registrar not
submit their registration details until another visitation. Hypocrites!
We found on good authority that students fulfilled all their registration
requirements but the disorganisation and the disorientation in the Registry
will always rare their ugly heads.
Before we
proceed further with this disturbing and difficult discovery, it is pertinent
to grill ourselves with these inevitable questions with a view to unravel the
lies and deceits advanced by ESUT Management to the public in reaction to some
of our revealing critiques.
1. How do these
students got registered without submitting their files and details?
2. Who gave them
their Registration numbers?
3. Who assigned them
to their different departments?
4. How do they pay
their fees and get acknowledgement from ESUT?
5. How do they sit
for their exams all these periods?
6. Does it mean that
ESUT has no record anywhere in the Registry of those they admit?
7. Does it mean that
anyone can now submit files or manipulate the ‘system’ to become an ESUT
student?
8. How would they
achieve effective verification within few days which for over 2 years they
can’t achieve? Etc.
In fact,
the questions are gargantuan and inexhaustible.
In view of
the foregoing, and consequent upon our initial and consistent stance that the rustication of the 544 students was a
manufacture of the sadists in ESUT Management, the recent memo has said it all
and vindicated and absolved us of any form of misinformation! The Registrar
is telling the whole world that ESUT has no record of its intakes. The students
who the management used to accuse of manipulating the admission processes are
now those relied upon to provide the basis of the records the university will
keep. Tomorrow, ESUT Management will set
up a committee that must found some students guilty of being admitted through
the back door in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 even when they have no records!
What a contradiction!
This same
ESUT Management lied to the public that they are sanitising the system. Which
system? Does ESUT have any system? Recall that ESUT Management claimed that
they are doing online registration since 2009/2010 session which implied that
they should have had all the data of ESUT registered students they are looking
for. It is now very clear that ESUT Management had been lying to themselves and
the general public that they are doing online registration where they engaged
consultants and contractors to exploit students as this has shown. They have wasted
the resources of the institution without any accrued benefit to the system. If
not, why ask students to submit hard copy (which they had already done when
they did the so called online registration) of what they already claimed they
have. It is clearer now that there is no system in ESUT and thus, no basis for the
expulsion of the 544 students in the first place. If there is anybody to be
expelled, it is the ESUT Management who had failed in their duties,
individually and collectively in steering the ship of ESUT.
The
Registrar of ESUT and ESUT Management should have known that the Registry
should have these 3 divisions viz: Admissions, Records, and Examinations. If
these divisions were in ESUT, the recent directives of the Registrar would not
have happened. How can the registration
process that started at the department and terminated at the Registry will
require the departments and faculties to produce evidence of registration of
students even when the Registry never sent to them any evidence of conclusion
of the Registration to store? It is Strange!!! This is insane!!! What then
happens after these data are collected and the visitation concluded? Where will
the data so collected be kept? (Because it is clear that the faculty officers
have no capacity for storage of these data).
We are
looking forward to another memo setting up another committee to retrieve the
students’ data collected for the verification of admission by JAMB and NUC from
faculties and departments as this is the way of this Vice Chancellor and his
management team.
