PROF UZOAGULU, DVC ESUT AND HIS TREACHERY

Campaign to Save ESUT

The Vice Chancellor
Enugu State University of Science and
Technology,
Enugu.

Dear Sir,

PROF UZOAGULU, DVC ESUT AND HIS TREACHERY
During the work ethics seminar organised by the university for lecturers and non-teaching staff which was held on Monday 19/03/12 and Tuesday 20/03/12, the DVC boasted openly about his ‘looking up to God’ and his implicit trust and dependence on God during his worklife before God uplifted him to be DVC. He said his ‘looking up to God’ saw him through variously as HOD of Technical and Vocational Education and as Director, Mature Students Program (MSP). He claimed unequivocally that his election to the office of DVC was God’s reward. This is the height of blatant falsehood.

Prof. A.E. Uzoagulu defines extortion as receiving money or contributions from students whether such money or contribution were done willingly or not. He even discussed the case of a certain HOD in the Faculty of Social Sciences that was reported to the Vice Chancellor for accepting levies from final year students for project defence, which case has been referred to him officially by the Vice Chancellor. He categorically, said the HOD was guilty of extortion since his departmental clerk confirmed that the final year students paid the final year project defence levies to the department. This was despite the fact that the DVC was reminded that all the other departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences used final year project defence levies to arrange and take care of external examiner’s visits since the university never provided funding for the external examiners visits. He excused the other departments on the premise that no body wrote a petition in their case even though he has been given information on those facts. However, the pertinent question here is, how can the accused in this matter get fair hearing and treatment in a matter already tried and convicted even before it started?! This is the treacherous, pharisaic and sanctimonious nature of this holier than thou Prof Uzoagulu. This equally portrays how Prof Uzoagulu is the arrow head of sectional and sentimental victimization, intimidation and predetermined trial of staff and students in ESUT.

Furthermore, if Prof Uzoagulu claims that they only act on petitions and he knows how to quickly convict and try summarily, how about our petitions on some individuals which have preceded this petition? Does that not amount to petition?

Besides, Prof Alloysius, Emengini Uzoagulu PhD, MSc, NCE, EFLI, Professor of Mechanical Technology Education has been an opportunist and a traitor. During the last months of the Prof Ikechukwu Chidobem’s Vice Chancellorship of ESUT, this same Prof Alloysius E. Uzoagulu did everything to undermine and destabilise that administration using his privileged position as Director MSP. He leaked and handed over vital documents and information to the labour unions and press corps, which information were used by the labour unions to write series of petitions against Prof Chidobem to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Even though, the Mature Students Programme suffered considerable irreversible declines under his directorship.

On the floor of ASUU, Prof A.E. Uzoagulu was competing for relevance on the side of the downtrodden workers with such longstanding ASUU patriots as Prof H.C. Aniodoh, Prof Owoh, Prof Onyehalu, Dr Felix Asogwa, and a few others. Whenever issues bordering on injustice and victimisation were raised, this professor always stood for justice and spoke (now we know, pretentiously) passionately for justice, equity and the defence of the weak, infirm labour members.

However, it was noticed that with the removal of Prof I. Chidobem and the jostle for DVC position by the professors, this professor stopped attending labour meetings, even those called as prayer rallies during the 7 month labour strike in 2010! This is despite that the sole aim was to pray for ESUT, that God will change their fortunes, that God will once more look favourably upon ESUT and resolve all the labour issues.

It was Prof Uzoagulu’s initial disposition at ASUU meetings that won the hearts and minds of the labour unions and recommended him highly for the office of DVC. Labour felt that they needed a pro-labour DVC that will work with the VC, and ensure good harmonious relationship between labour and management. Though God uses human instruments, it was labour’s concerted efforts and underground work that ensured his sweeping victory over Prof Marire in the election conducted in Senate.

Prof A.E. Uzoagulu is a treacherous persona who undermined and plotted the downfall of his boss, Prof. I. Chidobem. Has he changed? Will he ever change? Can a leopard change his spots?

His claims of looking up to God are complete unpardonable lie. Was he looking up to God when he as Director of Mature Students Programme of ESUT received a Toyota Camry Car from the Students of the Mature Students Programme? Has the meaning of extortion as defined by him as accepting any donation from students changed immediately he became Deputy Vice Chancellor?

This man from all indication is among the greatest clog in the success of ESUT especially when he uses his sightless religious attitude to undermine ESUT and its management.

To be continued.

God bless ESUT
Cc.
